Have you ever had some one tell you what to so or give you advise on what you should do?

Unless it fits your own internal universe it can almost go in one ear and out the other. In existentialism there is a term to get into another persons phenomonological universe so as to better understand the other individual. You remove yourself from your own ego and try to see reality through their eyes.

A true guru or enlightened one knows the answers and leads the initiate through a series of questions (like Socrates) until the individual realizes the truth or answers from within. The answers are there. It is in our DNA. We just need life experiences to activate it. We also need a guru to help ask is the right line of reasoning questions for us to ponder and reflect so as to open up a door of awareness and perception. Enlightenment is in us all.

The truth lays within, hidden, buried as secret treasure waiting to be found. We need each other to learn these truth's and so unbury the treasure to set ourselves free.

I tend to dislike it when others try to tell me what to do. I prefer advice that gives me additional information, perhaps something I have overlooked, or was unaware of, that I can use to make a better decision myself. I appreciate it if someone can point out a better way of doing something, or show me a possible consequence of some option that I had not thought of. There must be facts and sound reasoning behind it, though, or it will have limited credibility to me.

You know what I find funny....sometimes when a person gives you advice it is actually themselves they are advising and without perhaps knowing it at the time are setting in place coping structures that at a later time in life could prove invaluable to themselves.

Perhaps this is related to the fact that one does not really understand something oneself until one is able to explain it to others.
