That people will continue longest in the enjoyment of peace who timely prepare to vindicate
themselves and manifest a determination to protect themselves whenever they are wronged.

Hold on to what is good, even if it is a handful of dirt. Hold on to what you believe, even if it is a
tree that stands ny itself. Hold on to what you must do, even if it is a long way from here. Hold
on to life, even if it is easier to let go. Hold on to my hand, even if I have gone away from you.
Pueblo blessing

As there is no alternative between a falsehood and a lie, they (the American Indian) usually
tell any person, you "lie," as a friendly negative to a reputed truth.

When we go hunting it is not our arrow that kills the moose, however powerful the bow ; it is
nature that kills him.
Bedagi (Big Thunder)
Wabanaki Algonquin late 19th century

(I LightSun, do not agree with the reasoning of the above quote. Take it in a cultural context. I thought
about deleting the entry, after it was brought to my attention. Not any race or culture is supremely wise.
We should not take any words as law of the spirit. Each must make that own determination. Based on
what both the reason & compassion in their inner being tells us. We should also listen to counsel from
friends, to help us In determining what is true and just. I have listened to the council of Romana and
lavender orchid. Or rather read their thoughts, as well as reservations).

On this date in Native American history :
Tlingit filmaker Carol Geddes was born.

Romana wrote, "Guns don't kill people...society kills people???"
I did not get that impression from the quote. I personally am
anti-gun and violence. I am against guns. If I could, I would
outlaw them. But there appears to be certain segments of the
population who love their guns. Back to the quote. I believe he,
(perhaps erroneously) said it was not the arrow, but the natural
biological processes of being hit by an arrow. Then the biological
processes take over, and a being naturally dies from the trauma.
It may appear to be a rationalization on his part, or a very poor
translation. In a sense society is a reflection of the masses. If
negative violent images are continuously reinforced by the media,
then society reinforces the killing, as well as murders.

lightsun: i would like to put some asterisk to this quote. the very thought is at least discomforting, not to say dangerous.

thank you, lightsun ... Smile

to Romana: i share your sentiments on heavy weaponry.
since we are far away from making them disappear anytime soon, we should perhaps just remember the old pathways that were shown to man-kind as "having dominion over life", i.e. it was taking a life for trespassing in violation of synchronicity. that needs to be rediscovered... there has been wisdom in this divine order.
and still is.

true peace is so much more than just any temporary truce. all sentient beings are involved.

and insights. I accept any words of wisdom you wish to share. I am glad
you and Ramona were on top of this subject, and watchful. I made the
necessary course changes due to your feedback, which is always
appreciated. Thank you my friend. Your friend LightSun, an admirer of you,

It is our desire that we and you should be as one heart, one mind, and one body, thus
becoming one people, entertaining a mutual love and regard for each other, to be
preserved firm and entire, not only between you and us, but between your children
and our children, to all succeeding generations.

Might I know thee,
Might I consider thee,
O Lord of the universe.
Inca saying
On this date in Native American history :
November 20, 1890 : The stronghold plateau was on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Wovoka had
his Ghost Dance vision in 1889, and the prophecy soon caught on and swept across the West.
The dance was soon outlawed by the United States government, because they thought the
dance would inspire the Sioux to rise up and fight. The people started a journey to Pine Ridge
to learn the prophecy and learn the dance throughout early and mid 1890. By November 20,
over 3,000 people had made the pilgrimage.
